Note in this example the piece connecting the two is the red plastic. Also if your battery is draining down due to a problem with the gauge cluster we can fix that as well. As I was pulling out I noticed the tachometer, speedometer and alternator gauge inop. When the speedo head is out. I can't drive the Blazer because the speedo is off so bad it won't get out of 1st. The 4 speed 700r4 has some internal internal differences between the years, but will still work. Even difficult for an engineer to determine what kind of chip it is.
Step 8: Grab edges of the cluster and pull out slightly. Just ran my '93 2500 thru the car wash to get the bug guts off. Use a 2 pencil eraser to clean those, anything more coarse than that will tear those cheapass cable connectors apart. Pop that cable out and remove the screws, then you should be able to separate the tripmeter for your test. Has the speedometer on your Chevy Silverado stopped telling you you actual speed? It was shifting through all the gears but the timing of the shifts seemed off. If the signal is intermitent, or interupted, the light is set, as well as the speedo and odometer not working. The best way to determine what's wrong is to use a code reader, that way you won't be speculating. Replaced it turned the key and had idiot lights. Have tried internet searches over the years to no avail. Of course, all this is assuming that's what the problem is. However you will still have to play with the gears to get the spedo dialed in correctly like 'zieg85' said. The previous owner had bought a new speed sensor, but had not had it put in yet.
You can do that at a small fee, just as small as your property taxes. Is it something that wasn't hooked up when going back together? Will be the same in any 95-98 and 99 classic cluster. Is it easier to disassemble the cluster to locate the pin area? The chip has pads on it that are ultrasonically welded to the chip carrier. Posted on Mar 08, 2009 For speedometer related issues, the help links are provided below. This keeps all the numbers straight and cant be broken. The odometer is driven by an electric motor inside the cluster, and the tripmeter is fed off it by a little plastic driveshaft between them.
Be careful to not touch the gauge face or needles if you can avoid it; the face is easily smudged and it can be tricky to get it clean again without leaving marks, lint, etc. So I blew the plugs out and taped them up good and got the radiator to stop leaking but my problem is still coming and going. I've checked all the fuses , replaced the speed senor in the t-case as far as I know this is the only one the truck has , it's a base work truck trim and the wiring harness to the t -case and speed sensor, and no dice. It's not a big job to pull the cluster and separate them to see if the odometer will work again. The motor has supposedly been rebuilt and the tranny has been too. If I'm driving at freeway speeds and let up on throttle engine returns to almost idle by the sound of the exhaust no tach. So you can run into crap like this.
