I've considered the valve in the fuel sender in the tank, but isn't that on the return? If there's valve-piston contact it just pushes the valve up into the lifter or mushrooms the stem. I followed the diagnoses procedure on this website and am stuck at these points: the mil light and the glow plugs lights both come on. Nothing for a few days, and then suddenly could not start again tried over a period of 3 days. For the fuel pump and injector pump to lose prime, air has to be getting into fuel lines from the tank to the injector pump. When you get good spurts of fuel, tighten the nuts and the engine should start. The injector pump and injectors are original to the car. In the last week, my car has had a difficult time starting on 3 occasions,all three time the car has been sitting at least 6 hours and on a incline. December 2014 incident: car started, but after slowly driving to parking lot exit and before at full stop, at engine quit and would not restart.
If you push it one time, with very little pressure, the alarm goes off. I replaced the timing belt and car started back up. I was in the middle of a the road at the stop sign, the car managed to start again and drive another couple hundred feet to get it off to the side of the road. The dealership states they only have 1 vw technician and he is on vacation through Friday April 22nd. Blew it out and the Car started right up.
