What ensues is a battle to obtain their possession by different gangs, among who are Russians as well as a local gang from Thrissur. This is because the confounded viewers are no different, and keep their fingers crossed for some hilarity to come their way. Pulp fictionesque quirkiness was promised in 'Double Barrel', yet the narrative appeared too caricatured, with characters loud mouthing and laughing in obsessive abandon. Most of Double Barrel is set in Goa, and the story per se is irrelevant, as it gets submerged in a deluge of characters, each more flamboyant than the other. I wonder if 'Arya' read the script before acting,as we can't see any scope for his role in the movie. Arya, dressed in a bright pink duke costume for no particular reason, Swati Reddy, Chemban Vinod, Vijay Babu and Sunny Wayne are some of the other actors whom you manage to keep track of among the crowd.
It's sad that Lijo's concept of a comic book film that takes a dig at every tried and tested chestnut in gangster films doesn't turn out as stirring as it was meant to be. The only two characters whom once could possibly relate to are the He Asif Ali and She Pearle Manney who are dumbstruck by the proceedings around. And then ensues the one hundred and sixty minute long gun fire that would simply stop at nothing and which serves no other purpose other than deafening your ears.
There is this precious gem, Laila Majnu, which gets value only together to the tune of 100 cr. Though there are instances of excellent technical detailing, one finds it difficult to digest the overall narrative. Being a self-confessed admirer of the Lijo brand of film making, I should say 'Double Barrel' was a shot totally off the mark for me. The don does not like his son and wants to sell these two stones to somebody else. As the tagline suggests, there is no mortal combat, only guns, and all through, they shoot each other in a manner never before seen in a Malayalam movie. I don't understand ,based on what this movie is taken. Silent Sunny Wayne , the sniper, aims left, right and centre, while the kid squeaks his toy right on your face.
No story line, Poor editing, Poor Direction, Worst Music, Horrible dialogues. Through out the movie ,they have tried hard to adapt some Hollywood stunt elements. At the end of it all as I cough my way out of the smoke that remains in the halls, let me thank Diesel Chemban Jose and the unnamed African actor who bellows in chaste Malayalam for the little mirth that was offered. Well, that's as far as it gets. There are very few sequences in it that will have you in splits, and the script despite its very earnest endeavours barely manages to come up with little more than a few amusing moments. Asha Prakash of rated 2.
The climax reveals how this situation leads to a comedy of errors as Gabbar comes to know about his father's plan about selling the stones. Prithviraj and Indrajith has done this experimental role as best as they could, given the lack of references. There is a third set comprising Anil Murali, Sabumon Abdusamad and Rachana Narayanankutty, who get involved as well. Though there is a certain charm in which a novel style has been attempted in Double Barrel, the film fails to engage as with Lijo's previous movie 'Amen'. However, you can change your cookie settings at any time. While the deal happens, things get mixed up and lead to a big gang war between all the groups. Flawless cinematography and visual effects are on a par with that of any Hollywood flick.
Watch Double Barrel movie online. I'm certainly not against spoofs, or gangster spoofs for that matter, and was all set to get fired at, when 'Double Barrel' springs a surprise on me, by coming up with a tale that goes leaden within minutes. Director Lijo Jose Pellissery makes a brave attempt to combine the gangster genre with the pulp. It is now possessed by an underworld don in , who tries to sell it, in order not to lose it to his son, Gabbar, whom he despises. Outstanding cinematography, courtesy Abhinandan Ramanujam, is the strong point of the movie, where split second action shots composed in mellow lights and deliberate shadows, add depth to the frames. Camera work is good,Can give some marks to his work only.
They smoke, walk in slow motion, talk like gangsters and laugh hysterically at their own jokes. It could have sharpened its wit and brought in a less-sketchy-more-absorbing plot. But, it fails to entertain and leaves the average Malayali viewer dumbstruck, wondering what they had just witnessed. The three sets interconnect in odd ways, and are supposed to weave themselves into the narrative. The trailer itself had given an inkling about the movie. .
They do, in odd ways, but what is given a miss in the whole scenario is a little more of ha-ha. However, with 'Double Barrel' not only is the content insane, so is the presentation. Pancho and Vinci's attempts to get the stones for a don and subsequent tangles forms the plot. As for the audience, very few are going to be pleased. But then again, Double Barrel runs on its own terms, has its own sense of the plot—in both its brilliance and misgivings—and is the first of its kind in Malayalam cinema and even Indian cinema.
It found at the last position among the five release films at the box office. And they do too, including a gang of blacks, who have names like Suresh and speak like Mollywood comedians. They agree and ask for a week's time to arrange the money. Inspite of the technical expertise in sound and editing detailings, as well as the quirky costumes, there is too much madness in the narrative which leaves you befuddled. You cannot then really blame the viewer for bracing up for some hardcore laughter that shockingly never arrives. There is the disclaimer right at the beginning that this happens to be a film devoid of any logic. The film however comfortably snuggles into the alien territory, fires a few rounds and makes its presence felt.
Hats off to the poor people who suffered three hours in cinema. The story revolves around a set of two precious stones, each worthless without the other. The one question that lingers is, how did Lijo Jose Pellissery get his idea across to the actors? Such third party cookies may track your use on Filmibeat sites for better rendering. As much as I admire the film maker's efforts to try his hand at diverse genres, 'Double Barrel' shoots plenty of blanks and tries hard to be funny before running out of ammunition in no time. And they do a top notch job at looking foolish without looking awkward. Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community. There are plenty involved in the fray, with Pancho Priithviraj and Wincy Indrajith in the lead, and with Billy Vijay Babu , Sweety Isha Sherwani and scores of others loitering around.
